Upgrading Ubuntu 10.4 to 10.10

16 11 2010

Isn’t it nice when someone out on the internet just fixes your problem by having had the presence of mind to make a quick post on something? I was just idly wondering why I wasn’t getting an Ubuntu 10.10 upgrade button when in the Update Manager, and did a quick search to find this: http://blog.yohanliyanage.com/2010/10/upgrading-from-ubuntu-10-4-to-10-10/

Seems that by default, Ubuntu looks for LTS releases – LTS stands for ‘Long-Term Support’. LTS might be more appropriate for the average desktop user, but for those wanting to see the operating systems latest knobs and bells, changing the ‘prompt’ line in the ‘/etc/update-manager/release-upgrades’ file from ‘lts’ to ‘normal’ gives you the latest release.
