Resetting an EXOS switch to defaults (BlackDiamond 8800)

25 05 2007

Here’s how to reset an EXOS switch to defaults – useful if you’ve forgotten the password.

  • Get your console connected.
  • Power-cycle the switch
  • When you see the POST diagnostics running, press and hold spacebar.
  • Type “config anyoldname” – basically telling the switch to use a config file that does not exist.
  • Type “reboot” and the switch will come up with a blank config.

Heres a transcript of this happening. The switch has just been powered up…

This is not the way to Reset an EXOS switch to defaults, it just reboot it.
The right way to do it is in botrom menu, introducing the comand: “config none”
Best regards.
