Interesting news from Cisco this morning: they’ve just launched the new ASR 9000 – an aggregation services router aimed at providing scalable video delivery, increased mobile backhaul capacity and carrier ethernet services at the edge.
Apparently the new router is “6 times faster”, but unfortunately they fail to say what it is being compared to! Nevertheless, the statistics seem good – 400Gbps per slot… It runs IOS-XR, so it benefits from a modular operating system.
They’re going big on the green message too – only adding power supplies as you need them.
Here’s the introduction video.
The information on the Cisco website is a bit light on techy detail at the moment, but I imagine that will fill out soon.
